Many, many thanks to all who managed to deliver a shoebox for the Blythswood Care Christmas Appeal to the pick-up point at Chalmers Church on Friday 30-10-20. If you were unable to meet that deadline and would still like to give a shoebox then there is going to be another pick-up from Larkhall Baptist Church, who have asked that all boxes be with them by Sunday 22-11-20. If you would like any help in getting your shoebox to the Baptist Church then please get in touch with Alastair (Tel: 01698 321976 or e-mail: and he shall do his best to arrange for assistance.

As you are probably aware, on Advent Sunday St. Machan’s has for many years received children’s gifts to be passed on to the local Social Services for distribution to children in difficult circumstances at Christmas. Due to the present restrictions caused by the Covid virus, this year we are not able to do this on a Sunday morning however we are organising the following arrangements:

  1. A RETIRAL OFFERING: This will be available at the Sunday services on Sunday 29-11-20 and 06-12-20 for anyone who would like to make a monetary gift which, along with collections from a number of local churches, shall be used to purchase gift vouchers from local shops. These will be distributed to local families in need this Christmas. This task shall be coordinated by the Larkhall Lighthouse on King Street and will draw upon the knowledge of the Larkhall Community Network, the Machan Trust, youth organisations, local schools, and other community groups.

  1. ADVENT GIFTS FOR CHILDREN: We are determined to make it possible for folk to still give a children’s gift to the Social Services this year even if we can’t collect them in on a Sunday morning. Therefore if anyone would like to donate a present then please EITHER contact Alastair (Tel: 01698 321976 or e-mail: to arrange for it to be collected from your home OR hand deliver it to the outside door of the church kitchen at St. Machan’s between 10 am and 2 pm on Friday 11-12-20, the deadline for receiving gifts. AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE GIFTS SHOULD NOT BE WRAPPED ALTHOUGH YOU MAY INCLUDE SUITABLE WRAPPING OR A GIFT BAG WITH IT!

The hardships being experienced by many in our community due to the present crisis have made this act of Christian charity at Christmas even more important than usual so we would sincerely ask you to prayerfully consider giving in one or even both of these ways!
