Major Repair and Refurbishment Works to our Church

Our members will be more than aware that over the last few years our beautiful Church building had suffered storm damage to the roof, resulting in water ingress at various areas. Whilst we did our best to keep on top of repair and maintenance works to the roof it was fast becoming clear a more thorough repair was required. In addition to the roof issue, the central heating system was clearly on it’s last legs and members will remember the many services we sat through with very cold hands and feet. The Congregational Board therefore, decided to attempt to obtain funding to assist with the necessary repair/replacement works required to the roof and heating. It was also decided that the sanctuary should be redecorated as there would be damage to the décor following the central heating works and it had been a good number of years since last done. Following an application for funding to Viridor Credits Environmental Company in the Autumn of 2014, we were absolutely thrilled to learn our application had been successful and we were awarded a substantial grant of £54,603.80. This figure, whilst not fully funding, has gone a long way to assisting with the cost of the major works carried out. St Machan’s is indebted to Viridor Credits for awarding us the grant. Viridor Credits is an independent, not-for-profit distributive environmental body that awards funding to eligible heritage, conservation and community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund. Since it was established in 2001 it has distributed more than £100 million. For the year 2014 -15 it allocated £18,940,613 to 408 projects, one of which was our Church. Roof works started as soon as the worst of the winter weather was over and thereafter, the central heating works and redecoration were carried out. All works were completed by November 2015. I am delighted to say that the Sanctuary is now both very warm and looking beautiful. God has been wonderful and clearly has great plans for Larkhall.
